Toowoomba

***
Toowoomba is about an hour and a half west of Brisbane.
It is the 2nd largest inland city in Australia.
I think it was the closest to the outback I will get during my time here.

On Saturday we drove about an hour further west to Jondaryan Woolshed.
On the way there we went by lots of farms and a coal mine.
The train was carrying coal.

At one time, Jondaryan was a HUGE sheep farm.
It reminded me a lot of Gammelgarden.
There were lots of different buildings and artifacts all brought together.

Snow was our guide.
He is a sheep sheerer and has a thick Aussie accent.
At the end of the tour, Snow sheered a sheep and did a herding demonstration.
Both were amazing.

Things I learned:
Sheep only have teeth on the bottom of their mouth
You can tell how old they are by how many big teeth they have.
When a sheep is sheered it is all one piece wool (not lots of small pieces).
Snow can have a full conversation and work with is dog herding sheep at the same time.

Does anybody recognize those plants?
I remember Grandma Plachecki having them in Brainerd.. these ones are just HUGE.
I have seen them a lot here and it makes me think of her each time.

Last weekend I found the stairway to knowledge.. This weekend the tree of wisdom.
I am going to be very smart when I get back!

The classroom was one of the buildings on the tour.
All the schools in Queensland were given the same materials from the government,
so all the schools were pretty much identical.
Other people on the tour recognized everything in the room.

After the tour we had old fashioned damper.
On top is butter and a syrup.
It didn't have much flavor, but wasn't bad.

Next, we visited one of Rae's friends.
He LOVES tractors.
There were 90 fully functioning, restored tractors.
He has been collecting them for 30 years.
He was very passionate about them and told us lots of stories.
Surprisingly, I found it very interesting.

On the way back to Rae's house we stopped and took some pictures of the view.
You could see so far.
It was unbelievable!

Rae likes dancing, so on Saturday night we went with her to the Rock and Roll dance.
Many of the couples were dressed in matching outfits.
They were all having so much fun it put a smile on your face just being in the room.
No, I didn't participate.
